Any way to rename DOOR Links

Hello,

Under DOORS Database, I have a project and within this project I have created various folders such as Customer REQS, System REQS, Trace Matrix, Test Procedures etc. I have also created a Link Mods folder in this project.  In each of these folders, I have created corresponding DOORS module(s). In the Link Mods folder I have created various link modules with specific names corresponding to each pair of modules that are in the hierarchy of the modules ( Customer to System, System to Test Procedures etc). I have created number of objects in each of modules and created in-links and out-links that use corresponding link module.

One user, created additional modules with a number of objects. User has also created in links, out links to his modules as well as objects in my modules.

However, the user do NOT know,  how to create link modules and links sets etc.  Therefore, user used default "DOORS Links" module name to create his links.

There are two "DOORS Links" modules, in two different folders the user has created.

Thus these two "DOORS Links" modules with same name but has links between different modules.

My question is, if I have to create a trace matrix module that utilized these in/out links in the two "DOORS Links" modules as well as my modules,

what kind of precautions I need to  take in creating the trace matrix?

As a DOORS administrator, is there a way to restricts, users NOT to create new modules?

Is it appropriate to NOT allow users from creating new modules?

Is it appropriate to NOT allow users from creating default "DOORS Links" modules please?

How to restrict users from creating the Default "DOORS Links" modules, please?

Can I rename these default "DOORS Links" modules to another meaningful name in a safe way without disturbing the user's links.

Thanks and best regards,

Mike

You should be able to rename the link modules without affecting anything.  However, it probably would be better to change the link modules used by the links to your standard link modules.  That will take some headaches away.  If you search, you might be able to find a dxl script that will move the links from one link module to another.

If you don't, then the trace matrix will need to use the "any link module" when looping through links instead of specific ones.

Louie has mentioned before, and I agree with him.  It serves no point to name link modules by the link pair.  Better to name link modules on the links purpose.  In our area, we use Requirement link module for links from lower level requirements to higher level requirements.  Design link module for tracing from design to requirements.  Test link module for tracing from test cases to requirements.

You should use linksets to force only certain links between module and what link modules should be used.  Make the linksets mandatory and include checking the checkbox "Only allow outgoing links to the target modules in the above list".  If the users try to break those rules DOORS will not let them.  It is more of a case, if you can prevent someone from doing the wrong thing, they you should.

You can also prevent DOORS from making a DOORS Links module by making a link module with that name and then deleting it but not purging it.  However, this needs to be in every folder where links can be made from.

Hope this helps,

Greg
